The Evaluation

Before We Talk Treatment, We Find The Cause.

Hair loss can feel deeply personal.

Patients often arrive after months of watching the shower drain, photographing their part, changing hairstyles, buying supplements, and wondering whether anyone else notices.

We understand why you’re worried — and hair loss has many possible causes. Different causes require different approaches.

The first appointment isn’t about products. It’s about finding out what’s actually happening.

Where The Search Begins
Hereditary hair loss
Illness-related shedding
Alopecia areata
Scalp disorders
Tight hairstyles + hair practices
Other medical + physiologic factors

Different causes require different approaches — which is why diagnosis comes first.

Patterns
What Hair Loss Can Look Like

Four Patterns. Four Different Stories.

Gradual Thinning
“My Part Keeps Getting Wider.”

Pattern hair loss can affect both women and men.

Sudden Shedding
“Hair Is Coming Out Everywhere.”

Illness, physiologic stress, and other triggers can sometimes cause noticeable shedding months later.

Patchy Loss
“There’s A Bare Spot.”

Patchy hair loss can have several causes and deserves evaluation.

Scalp + Hair Changes
“Something Else Is Going On.”

Scaling, redness, inflammation, tenderness, or scarring can provide important diagnostic clues.

The Story
Your Visit

The Story Matters As Much As The Scalp.

We may discuss:

When the loss began
Sudden or gradual onset
Recent illnesses or major life events
Medications + medical history
Pregnancy or hormonal changes
Family history
Diet + nutrition
Hair practices + styling
Itching, scaling, pain or other symptoms

Your provider will examine your scalp and hair. Depending on what we find, additional testing or a biopsy may sometimes be appropriate.

Your Plan

Diagnosis First. Treatment Second.

Treatment depends entirely on the cause. Some types of hair loss can regrow spontaneously. Others benefit from medical treatment. Some require early intervention to reduce the risk of permanent loss.

Identifying the cause early can improve the opportunity for successful treatment — or prevent further loss.

We don’t believe every patient with hair loss needs a cabinet full of supplements. Excess amounts of some nutrients can actually worsen hair loss.

Common Questions

Asked & Answered.

Should I see a dermatologist or my hairstylist about hair loss? +

Your stylist may be the first person to notice a change, but dermatologists are trained to diagnose diseases affecting the skin, hair, and nails.

Will you order blood work? +

Sometimes. Testing depends on your history, examination, and suspected cause.

Should I start taking hair vitamins? +

Not necessarily. Supplements aren’t appropriate for every cause of hair loss, and excessive amounts of certain nutrients can be harmful.

Is all hair loss permanent? +

No. Whether hair can regrow depends on the underlying cause and whether the follicle has been permanently damaged.

You Don’t Have To Figure It Out Alone.

A careful history, a thorough scalp exam, and a plan built on the actual cause.
